Pookode lake & Banasura Sagar dam

A scenic natural fresh water lake in Wayanad surrounded by evergreen forest and rolling hills. Tourists can also avail of boating facilities, children's park, and a shopping centre for handicrafts and spices. There exists a fresh water aquarium with large variety of fish as an added attraction.<

21 kms north east of Kalpetta is the mini hydal project with the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia. The Banasura project precincts are an ideal starting point for treks to the Banasura Peak. A quaint feature is a series of islands that were formed when the reservoir submerged the surrounding areas.

Chain tree & Ghat view point

A large Ficus tree bound by a chain near the entrance of the Wayanad Ghat Road. It is believed that a priest chained the soul of an Adivasi youth, who guided a British Engineer through mountain terrain into Wayanad. The British Engineer killed the Adivasi to take the credit of the discovery of the way.

Edakkal caves

Located at a height of 1000 mts on Ambukuthi mala near Ambalavayal the three Edakkal caves have new stone-age pictorial writings on the walls which are the evidence of the civilizations that existed in the pre-historic times. The Edakkal caves can be accessed only by a 1 Km trekking trail from Edakkal.

Kuruva island

The Kuruva island, is an ideal picnic spot, far away from the disturbances of city life. The island 17 Kms east of Mananthavady and 40 kms north west of Sulthan Bathery is uninhabited with 950 acres of ever green forest on the tributaries of east flowing river Kabani. Rare species of birds, orchids and herbs exist here in Kuruva Island.

Meenmutty,Soochippara & Kanthanpara falls

The beautiful waterfalls in Wayanad . Soochippara is a three step waterfall more than 200 Mts in height framed by enchanting scenery. Ideal for rock climbing, Soochippara can be reached by a scenic 2 km nature walk. Deer and other wildlife can be seen near the waterfront. The pool below, provides for water rafting, swimming.

Meenmutty falls located 29 km from Kalpetta is a three-tiered waterfall with a height of 300 metres. Each of the three tiers of the waterfall requires a separate hike through a moist, deciduous forest. Kanthanpara Falls is relatively smaller than Soochippara falls, and rather less frequented. Kanthanpara and its surroundings is an easy hike away from the main road, and are perfect for picnics.

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary

Muthanga is spread over a vast area and is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere region. The rain forest reserve is connected to two major sanctuaries - Bandipur National Park and Mudumalai Sanctuary in Tamilnadu. Muthanga has a large population of pachyderms, and has been declared a Project Elephant Site. Also home to a small population of tigers Muthanga has a large profusion of birds, butterflies and insects.
